MTSU RN To BSN

By jeff | October 13, 2011

The MTSU RN to BSN Program is one of the finest in the state of Tennessee and the best part is that a large portion of it is online.

They categorize it as distance education or nontraditional programs. This means you don’t have to be at the school in person during the week.

Middle Tennessee State University is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and is one of the fastest growing universities in the state. It’s actually the largest and oldest public university in the mid state.

It has a few accreditations of note including the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission and Fuld Institute for Technology in Nursing Education.

I personally attended MTSU during my college days and always remember the presence of large amounts of nursing students. I passed by the nursing building everyday while walking to my classes.

MTSU’s online program, known as the School of Nursing’s Online Bachelor of Science, allows students to earn a BSN within three semesters.

Those students who graduated with an associate’s degree in nursing or have a hospital diploma in nursing can get advanced standing credit in this program.

The RN to BSN Program offers students more than just online courses. In addition, students actually get real-life experience at clinicals.

Students who receive their BSN have more opportunities than those with only an RN. A BSN degree helps students in the long run, especially if they are interested in taking their career to higher levels of management, research, teaching, or if they want to continue their education and get a master’s degree.

The pay between an RN and BSN is not substantial, but in the long run most students are glad they received the extra education.

MTSU desires to provide a quality nursing education with the purpose of getting students completely ready to enter a nursing practice. They also want you to be fully able to enter a professional practice to immediately help patients.

MTSU RN To BSN Requirements

Students who have an RN license must meet the general studies requirement, but if you have an RN Associate Degree already then you won’t have to take many of the freshman and sophomore general studies.

Once you have the prerequisites out of the way, you must take the required nursing courses. The good thing is that the same professors who teach nursing at the school also handle the online courses so you know you’re still getting the best education.

To become enrolled, you’ll need to obtain admissions forms at MTSU, send your transcripts to the School of Nursing and provide paperwork proving you’re licensed as an RN.

You must consult with the MTSU Bursar’s Office to find out about cost of attending school, online course cost and if you have any financial aid questions you should contact the financial aid office.

Distance education is perfect for those who want to get the superb teaching from MTSU. The MTSU RN to BSN online program is a great way to get the education you need in order to move on to the career you want.

My brother and sister in law both have BSN degrees. Nursing in general is a very rewarding career path. Shortly after receiving hers, my sister in law managed to get a job very quickly right out of college. While they went to “regular” college, it is very interesting to see how people can now do their schooling online. I myself grew up doing quite a few courses online, and always found them to be very convenient experiences which allowed me to essentially work at my own pace and do other things I liked doing more, or needed to do, more freely like work. I’d agree with you that looking into online schooling to switch from an RN to a BSN is a really great idea! Of course, you’re still going to get valuable hands on experiences in your field, so it is not like you are missing out on much by doing things online!

Great points Chris! Doing online course work is very advantageous for those wanting to go from RN to BSN.

They’ve got all the prerequisites and sometimes they can do all their clinical work during the day and take some online classes at night.
